In the contemporary time, many couples are considering in vitro fertilization to have their own baby. It seems as if it has become the trend of the time to go for IVF. This can be attributed to the fact that now girls and boys get married at a pretty late age and this creates complications in conceiving the baby. Also, there are other factors responsible for this situation. To be precise, it is seen as one of the best means to increase your family size and has become highly popular in the present age and time as more and more advanced technologies are coming to their rescue.

To begin with, let us first try to understand as to what IVF exactly means and what is done in this process of in vitro fertilization.

“In vitro” is a term derived from the Latin language which means “in the glass”. It is basically used to refer to the glass container in which the process of fertilization is carried out in the laboratory. It is a process in which the female egg is mixed with the male sperm outside in the glass container.

In this process of in vitro fertilization, the eggs are first taken out from the ovary of female and then mixed with the sperm collected in the container. The eggs are then fertilized with the sperms and thereafter it is put back into the woman’s uterus.

Before doing the in vitro fertilization, the female is given some drugs for fertility that can be helpful in stimulating the ovary. This leads to the development of various mature eggs that are needed to carry out the process of in vitro fertilization.

When the woman is put on drugs, she is monitored on a constant basis to find out how her body is responding to various drugs and if there is any use giving her these drugs. Every woman has a different anatomy of body and it is not necessary that all would react to the drug in a similar way. There have been cases where women suffered from frequent headache problem. Therefore, you need to keep track of how a female is responding to the drug and whether it suits her or not.

Talking about the right time to retrieve the female eggs, the female undergoing the process of IVF is closely monitored for some time and the status of hormone as well as her body temperature is recorded from time to time and when everything seems to be normal. Then an ultrasound is done a couple of days usually 3-5 days before ovulation to check if the eggs are ready to be taken out from the ovary or not.

You must be thinking how long the whole procedure will take to complete. Usually it takes near about 4-6 weeks for the complete process of in vitro fertilization. Once the sperm is taken out from the male organ, it is only the female who needs to visit the clinic again for the transfer of embryo back to her uterus. Then, as in the case of other women, the woman would conceive the baby in the ninth month. So, this is how in vitro fertilization has come to help the couples who are not able to conceive baby naturally.
